Chronicles of the Chronicle
About a year and a half ago we launched our first Kickstarter campaign. With the help of all of you, it was a major success! Soon after, Chronicle tripods started finding themselves on adventures around the world. Let’s break down where it's been and what makes this piece so special to us.
What’s different about the Chronicle?
Most of us hear the word tripod and we don’t think that much of it. A 3 legged object designed to hold your camera…but there’s so much more to it. You see, tripods are a foundational piece of equipment for every photographer and videographer's kit. You need one. No if, ands, or buts.
One look and you’ll find that they come in a myriad of different styles, materials, colors, and sizes. Most of them, however, are just a set of legs and a head. The Chronicle was designed to be different. Offering a full size tripod, tabletop tripod, and monopod in one uniform and lightweight package. It almost seems too good to be true.
A simple twist of the knob on the tripod’s yoke and you’ll find that the center column comes right out, revealing the Flexor. The Flexor is essentially a tabletop tripod or mini tripod of sorts that makes achieving ground level shots or handheld shots a breeze. You don’t need to fuss about getting the main tripod legs low to the ground. One twist and you’re ready to go.
If you’re shooting sports or something that requires maximum flexibility then having the monopod as an option will be indispensable. Simply unscrew the “gripped” leg, unscrew the flexor’s base, and attach the head to the leg and the Flexor base to the foot of the leg (if desired). Suddenly you have a full sized monopod with a three-leg base that has an excellent range of working heights and motions. When you’re all set with it, you can quickly convert it back to a tripod and move onto your next shot.
And we can’t forget…the head allows you to utilize both a full size mirrorless setup or quickly switch to cell phone use with the unique, patent-pending phone clamp. Oftentimes, when you hear of a head that offers both functionalities, you assume you are giving up capability on the photo/video side of things. I’m happy to report that is not the case with the Chronicle. I’ve used it with a Sony a7siii, 70-200mm, cage, and monitor without any slipping of the ball head. With that setup, I can instantly dismount the camera and throw on my phone if I want to get a BTS shot.
All-in-all the Chronicle’s features make for an extremely adaptable and dynamic tripod that was designed to work with you no matter what type of creative work you engage with.
Chronicle Adventures
Chronicles have been to all corners of the United States and beyond. From the jagged coastline of Maine to the deserts of southern Utah, it has endured many environments and shooting conditions. On these travels it has been used to capture a wide range of subjects for both photo and video projects alike.
This tripod has also taken some long plane rides to some very unique locations around the world. One recent trip the Chronicle has gone on is to South Africa and Namibia. Home of some of the most striking and unique landscapes in the world, this region is flat out unforgiving. I mean look at this ridiculous landscape captured by Damien Abad, landscape photographer and adventure enthusiast!
Currently, another Chronicle is helping to shoot a documentary in India and we can’t wait to share more on this! Needless to say, Chronicles have been involved in the capture of some pretty amazing places with some extremely talented people.
