Damien’s Journeys Through Africa
There are some trips that leave a lasting imprint on your soul, and my recent adventure to Namibia and Cape Town, South Africa, was undoubtedly one of them. From the vast, otherworldly landscapes of the Namib Desert to the vibrant, energetic streets of Cape Town, every moment felt like a story worth telling. But what made this trip even more memorable was having the right tools to capture and preserve these experiences—and that’s where Promaster came in.
Namibia: A Land of Timeless Beauty
Namibia is a photographer’s dream. The shifting sands of Sossusvlei, the hauntingly beautiful Deadvlei, and the rugged terrain of Damaraland all offer unique opportunities to create stunning visuals. Deadvlei, in particular, stood out to me as one of the most surreal places I’ve ever seen. The skeletal camelthorn trees, preserved by the arid climate, stand in stark contrast to the bright orange dunes and endless blue sky. It’s a scene that demands to be captured perfectly—and thankfully, I was prepared.
The ProMaster Chronicle Tripod was an absolute lifesaver in the desert. Shooting on the shifting sands of Sossusvlei can be challenging, but the tripod’s stability ensured my shots were sharp and steady. Plus, its lightweight design made it easy to carry through the dunes, even in the intense heat.
Then there’s the matter of those massive 61MP files I’m working with. The ProMaster Rugged CINE SDXC cards handled everything with ease, from rapid bursts to high-res video. These cards are built to endure, and they’re as tough as the Namibian desert itself. Knowing I had reliable storage gave me the peace of mind to focus on creativity without worrying about losing a single moment.
Cape Town: A Vibrant Contrast
After the raw, untouched beauty of Namibia, arriving in Cape Town felt like stepping into a different world. The city is alive with color, culture, and energy. From hiking up Table Mountain to exploring the lively waterfront and enjoying the serene beaches, Cape Town offers a mix of natural beauty and urban sophistication.
Having the right gear here was just as important. Whether I was capturing the golden hour light on Table Mountain or the crashing waves along the Cape Peninsula, the Chronicle Tripod once again proved its worth. It’s not just a tool for rugged landscapes—it’s versatile enough for cityscapes and fast-paced shooting as well.
