Family Vacation Picks for Photographers

Family Vacation Picks for Photographers

When you’re planning a family vacation, the last thing you want to do is add more to the packing list, but if you’re like me, you also want to capture some priceless moments of your time together. Whether you’re traveling by car or plane, packing and space is at a premium. In this blog we’ll cover some essential gear you’ll want to add to the (neverending) packing list to help you get the most out of your trip!

Compact Camera

Starting with the most crucial piece of gear - the camera. You’ll want to opt for a more compact, yet full-featured, camera to bring along. My personal favorite is the OM-D E-M10 Mark IV. If you’re concerned about space, pair this camera with a 14-42mm pancake lens. The combination of a small, lightweight camera with a pancake lens that still provides a full range of settings allows me to create some amazing images without weighing me down. This mirrorless camera is light, easy to carry, and frees you to do your best shooting all while capturing bright, sharp stills and video.

Another popular option is the Fujifilm X-T30 II Mirrorless Camera with XC 15-45mm OIS PZ Lens. The Fujifilm X-T30 II Mirrorless Camera offers powerful stills and video features in a compact, functional design. Both of these cameras offer you options for creating beautiful images from your family vacation to treasure for years to come.

Lens Filters

Simply adding the right filter to your lens upgrades your photography game. Choose a Circular Polarizer (CPL) filter to remove glare and reflections from water, glass, and other non-metallic surfaces for images with more saturated color and better contrast. Variable Neutral Density (ND) filters allow you to control bright conditions, like direct sunlight, and achieve your desired shutter speed and aperture. Bring along a couple of filters to make sure you get the best shot every time. Adding a filter to your lens will also add a layer of protection. Check out ProMaster’s full line of filters to find the best one for you.

Modular Tripod

A tripod is essential for taking family photos. Set it up so everyone’s in the photo or use it to stabilize your landscape shot. The ProMaster XC-M 525 tripod is a great option for when you want the stability and capabilities of a full-fledged tripod, in a compact package. Folding down to an impressive 15 inches, you’ll be able to tote this tripod on all of your adventures. It has a max working height of 70 3/8", 5-section, transverse legs that fold 180°, and a built in monopod. Use the included QR plate to mount and dismount your camera with ease. Weighing just over 3 lbs, strap this tripod to your bag and you’re ready to take your best family vacation photos yet.

Trustworthy Memory

Make sure all of those vacation memories are safely stored on a trustworthy memory card. Select the memory card that makes the most sense for your photography. Concerned about durability on your trip or finding your card in a bag? ProMaster Rugged memory cards are bright red and easy to spot anywhere and provide the ultimate combination of performance and durability, with industrial-grade components that offer protection against water, weather, and impact.

Convenient Battery

Crucial to any photoshoot is backup batteries. ProMaster makes batteries to fit nearly every camera on the market. Pick up a couple to have charged and ready for whenever you need it. If you’re looking for the ultimate portable charging option, check out the ProMaster USB-C chargeable batteries. These batteries conveniently charge via any standard USB 2.0 port - your car, your laptop, your portable powerbank - you’re never too far from a power source.

Stylish Camera Strap

Vacation is the perfect time to try a new camera strap style. The ProMaster tapestry straps are available in a range of different colorways in eye-catching tribal patterns. A microfiber backing ensures comfort while the quick release buckles make switching up your strap a breeze. The strap can be adjusted from  36" to 58” to fit your desired length. Check out the full range of tapestry straps to find your favorite.

If you’d rather go with a more understated style, check out the ProMaster rope straps available in a muted olive green and black. These straps are available in three fixed lengths and a wrist strap. They are woven from a soft, yet durable fabric and feature some cushioning for all day comfort. Either way, you’ll be shooting photos in style!

Pack it All Up

The Large Impulse Backpack features a sleek design with an impressive amount of storage capacity at 18.2 L. The soft interior uses adjustable compartments, so you can pack this bag any way you need it. The durable outer fabric is water resistant and includes a full rain cover for extra protection in heavy downpours. The backpack’s main compartment opens from the back of the bag so your gear is protected while wearing it. You’ll be able to securely pack all the gear we mentioned above, including your tripod in the dedicated side pocket and strap, and still have room for some day trip essentials for the whole family like water bottles, a light jacket, snacks, and sunscreen.

Head to your local camera store to check out these ProMaster products in person before you begin packing or shop online at promaster.com.
